Several studies conducted by scientists at the University of California, San Francisco, have shown improved survival rates for individuals, with cardiovascular conditions, who adhered to a diet rich in marine omega-3 fatty acids. Although the exact mechanisms effecting this protective effect isn't properly understood, it has something to do with length of telomeres, DNA sequences at the end of chromosomes that shorten with the replication and aging of cells. Longer telomere length, to put it simply, means reduced cellular ageing. Further, studies conducted by other researchers show a positive correlation between telomere length and intake of multivitamins and green tea.
