Be Careful With Fires During Surgery

Here is something I bet most of you didn't know: Fires during surgery are more common than most people think.

Due to the high concentration of oxygen in the surgery room, and the presence of electronic equipment, a spark can be generated and quickly become a fire.

Although most fires do not cause much damage to the equipment and the room itself, they can be very dangerous for the patient.

Five Diet Foods That are Worse Than What They're Replacing

Companies can be very smart using our desire to be healthy to sell more. Great examples are some of the "diet" foods that are out there.

You will see some very clever tactics some times, like for example, cutting down on maybe 25% of the fat, but cutting the portion size on the label by half. This way, when you look at the fat content in one portion it is less than half, of a "non-diet" variety of the same food.

But beyond that, some diet foods are simply worse than the ones they are replacing.

Signs of High Blood Pressure

High blood pressure, although a very serious condition, often goes undetected until it manifests itself in the form of something serious such as a heart attack or a stroke.

However some symptoms may occur, which could actually be a good thing, because it can get people to see a doctor, who would diagnose the condition.

Here are some of the common signs:

- Headaches

- Dizziness

- Blurred vision

- Nausea

Even if you don't have those symptoms, however, it is good to get your blood pressure checked often.

Motivation Tips From Big Loser Contestants

I don't condone the approach they take on The Big Loser TV show. It is great for entertainment, but it is not realistic to expect an overweight, inactive person to get into the type of routines those contestants get. The only reason they can keep up with it is that they are competing for a prize money and are immersed on a different lifestyle 24 hours a day.

However, this article has some good tips. Interestingly enough, one of the tips is basically to take it slowly, one day at a time.

Find Your Dosha

Ayurveda is a medicine system that originated in India over 5,000 years ago. Today in the U.S., Ayurveda is considered a form of alternative medicine, but more and more health practitioners are learning to incorporate this amazing system into their practice.

One of the very basic principles of Ayurveda is that people are not the same. The same way we are all different externally- tall, short, dark skin, light skin, stronger upper body, stronger lower body- we are also different in other physical and mental aspects.

Before an ayurvedic doctor does anything with you, he/she will determine your Dosha, your ayurvedic mind and body type. Different Doshas should eat differently, benefit from different physical activities and should essentially lead different life styles.

Determining your Dosha is one of the best things you can do for your health. And you will be amazed how much sense the advices make. For example, I'm a Pitta. Pittas are passionate and driven, but may be prone to be overstressed. When I was younger I had a real hard time falling asleep and forgetting the problems of the day. Knowing there was a reason for that, I put a lot of effort into learning to meditate and relax, and today the fact that I fall sleep easily and sleep very well, and don't let stress take a toll on me is a major factor that contributes to my health.
